John Baran: See the World from a Different Perspective

Fascinated with the aerial view of landscapes, John Baran’s paintings contain texture and layering that depict landforms, vegetation and bodies of water in a sea of color and shape. John finds the geographical features of aerial landscapes—their delicate yet striking patterns of light, color and texture—thought provoking and captivating.

Show Runs through December 5th.

We are proud to announce the second opening at PAH in September!

Opening on Friday, September 26th is the Loves of Zeus. This show features new works from Stephanie Jung.

The Loves of Zeus is a cycle of mythological images that were often portrayed in Art History. Stephanie Jung revisits these stories and images ina series of large-scale works on paper that both quote, and depart from past approaches. As well as reacting to the myths, the works emphasize the freshness and spontaneity of drawing as a medium.

We are proud to host a show of this intensity and with such a striking concept. Join us for a night of art you won't forget!

The Edward Povey Lecture

  • Process Art House

Every now and again we get to present you with something unique and powerful. This month it happens twice. We are following the powerful Art of Survival show with a lecture that digs to the root of what it means to make art. This hour long experience is energetic, thoughtful, and powerful. We are incredibly proud and excited to present to Amarillo, renowned artist Edward Povey. Over a 30+ year career, Edward has produced over 3500 works, been installed in over 600 private, corporate, and museum collections, and traveled the world with his art.

After BBC interviews in 2014, his recent article by the legendary Xaviera Hollander, and an academic interview by art dealer Theodore Trotta-Bono to follow soon - Edward continues to shape his new style after his giant creative leap in 2013. He will share his victories, challenges, and adventures in pioneering a new way of making paintings.

The Art of Survival

This is the 2nd time we've been privileged to host this show. It's one of the most powerful shows we will present to you this year. The works created for this exhibition reflect the power of creativity to process our deepest emotions.

The show is presented by the Amarillo Area Breast Health Coalition and Process Art House. There are bras created by Panhandle area survivors and co-survivors of breast cancer, live models showcasing these amazing pieces, and a special collection of bras created by area artists to show their support of this important cause.

Art does more than hang on the wall. This show proves it. Come out and show your support Saturday night at 7:00PM!

Artist Buries Demons in Latest Works

By Chip Chandler

Artist Fritz Danner is burying old demons in his newest works — burying them under layers and layers of more paint.

Danner, an Amarillo resident by way of Anchorage, will display his newest oil works in his first show at Process Art House, 700 S. Van Buren St.

“Visitors Report to Office: New Paintings from Fritz Danner” opens with a 7 p.m. Friday reception. The show hangs through April 2.

Danner said he’s experimenting with multi-level oil paintings, using translucent paint to cover what, in some cases, were failed attempts at other works.

“A lot of these paintings are unresolved paintings that are three or four years old,” Danner said. “Everything that’s on the editing room floor — that’s what it is.

“There’s an aspect of randomness to it, but there’s also an aspect of intuition,” he said. “I think that’s what makes it a work of art.”

Danner, 54, said he’s long worked by intuition, trusting his gut to tell him when a work is finished or when he needs to set it aside.

“The way I feel about it is that I can go back to being an ordinary person (when a work feels complete),” Danner said. “I can just return to my everyday, ordinary life.

“What’s uncomfortable is when it’s not resolved, and that’s where this work comes from,” he said.

He compares the paintings to the workings of the human mind.

“I see some of these as sort of a reflection of my relationship with my subconscious mind, where there’s a lot of encrypted data in the subconscious or unconscious mind ... but on the surface ... you’re seeing a lot of imagery telegraphed from underneath the finished surface,” he said. “You can see what’s archived there literally under the surface of the paintings I’m doing now.”

Gallery owner Jacob Breeden said Danner is following “a compulsion ... to speak to the world.”

“His work is an exploration in imagery, color and form of the world as he sees it,” Breeden said. “The work can be rough and aggressive at times, yet other pieces reflect a tone that is softer and more introspective.”

Three Dimes Rich

  • Three Dimes Rich

Opening Night: Friday, December 13th 7:00pm - 10:00pm

We are pleased to announce the inaugural show of Three Dimes Rich, a collaboration between Shawn Kennedy, Jon Revett and M.D. Williams. The show will consist of individual artworks from each artist, along with a short art documentary about the Yellow City Yeti. Through a cryptozoological investigation, the Three Dimes Rich art collective was able to discover the original artwork and artifacts and capture footage of the primitive creature thought to be linked to the creative spirit of Amarillo.
